What the Heck is a Chinese Facial Map?

Chinese Face Mapping....

I have been there...would you believe that I had acne and subsequent scarring? To the point where a laser CO2 treatment was the only thing that helped me to regain my confidence? I was so very embarrassed of my skin, that when I was in school to learn to treat skin that I didn't want anyone to touch it or to give me the bad news of why my skin got that way. I was in my 30's, I had just given birth to my youngest daughter, and my hormones were all over the place. Normally, I don't talk about my own skin, but I am in this little snippet because I want you to know I have been there. Finally one day, our class was moving forward to the segment on skin analysis. The greatest understanding happened when my instructor said this: "The skin is the largest organ of the body and you can actually learn a lot about you body by looking at the skin on your face."

The Chinese Facial Map

Above is a picture of a typical Chinese Face Mapping sketch. The theory behind the map is that the skin we have on the outside reflects what we are experiencing on the inside. Chinese ‘Mien Shiang’ means "Facial Reading" or "Face Mapping". Face mapping helps you understand the underlying health and well being of yourself. Face mapping wasn't very popular main-stream to many of the Skincare companies or schools of thought. Nor was it a very popular tool for my school mates to use. But I have to say, I am convinced that it is the best tool out there that I STILL use in practice today.

Below, I have listed the areas of the body where breakouts may be with your skin and what some of the symptoms may mean. Now don't diagnose yourself with something, this is just something I found is VERY interesting and use it as a part of my practice when I work with clients of ALL ages!

NOTE and Disclaimer...This is not a substitute for medical advice, please consult your physician if you are unsure about your condition. This guideline is simply to be used as a tool.

Forehead : Liver and Gall bladder

Cause: Lack of sleep, eating too much fatty foods, drinking too much alcohol will lead to a spotty forehead. This reflects your digestion and you will need to help your body with less processed and fatty foods.

You may also need to stop wearing caps and hats (or make sure they are clean), avoid having a fringe and keep your forehead clear of anything that may irritate it.

Remedies: Eat as much raw food as you can and drink lots of water to help your liver. Get lots of fresh air, do some brisk walking to get the circulation going and rest more.

Between the Eyebrows : Stomach and Liver

Cause: Again this could be excessively rich foods or processed foods that are overloading your system. You could also be lactose intolerant and finding it hard to digest heavier foods such as meat.

Remedies: Raw foods, lots of water and try to cut down on dairy/meat products for a week or two and see there are any improvements.

Temples and Brows : Kidneys

Cause: Too much toxin, too much stress and not enough water! Too much ‘heat’ inside your body

Remedies: Drink lots of pure water and eat ‘cooling’ foods such as watermelon, cucumbers, apples to combat the excessive ‘heat’. And iced tea, lemonade and the bottled waters don't count as water!!!

Nose : Heart

Cause: High cholesterol and fatty foods will block arteries and impede blood circulation. Toxins "escape" through our pores as the other organs become overloaded.

Remedies: Drink Tea!! The best is Organic Green Tea as it has gone through less fermentation process and is full of anti-oxidants; or you could also try Oolong Tea 2 -3 times a day.

ALSO get up offa the couch and move it!! Do 30 minutes of light to moderate exercise daily and add low- fat fresh produce and lean protein to your diet.

Upper Cheeks : Lungs

Cause: Pollution, smoking, asthma, respiratory ailments and environmental scents such as the residue smell from cleaning products and even perfumes will all lead to breakouts and broken capillaries in this area. Many of my clients have "Telangecstasia" or broken capillaries in this area!

Remedies:

Fresh air and exercises that increase oxygen intake will help as well as avoiding fatty and spicy foods. Again avoid all the culprits such as caffeine, alcohol, processed foods and try to avoid too much diary products and meat. Fresh fruits and vegetables are the way to go, Why? Because they are chock full of Vitamin C. ( Please see my other blogs about Vitamin C)

Lower Cheeks : Stomach and Liver

Cause: Indigestion, overload of toxins and too much rich foods. I always notice that my clients flare up around the holidays the MOST in this area...Why? More SUGAR is available in holiday foods and preparations!!

Remedies: Put Down the Fruit Cake!! Go easy on sugary foods. Tempting as they are, eat a small portion or a small bite instead of eating the whole thing. I LOVE MINT and camomille teas after a big meal to aid your digestion. Most of my clients institute juicing or juice detoxes juice and I see wonders with their skin AFTER the holidays!

Mouth and Chin : Stomach

Cause: You are what you eat ....and it will REALLY show around the mouth! Ever notice those that eat fast foods and no greens? Green are what help toxins be absorbed by our blood stream. They are also facilitators of movement and help the bile in our tummies to be a more moderate pH!

Remedies: Cut out the processed foods, anything fried, spicy or oily and go fresh and green. Things such as Bok Choy, Broccoli, and even Brussel Sprouts are GREAT here. Also for those who love Sushi...KELP is a Superfood and besides good for the tummy, the Iodine content in Kelp is AWESOME for your Thyroid!

Fiber Fiber Fiber....Add more fiber to your diet and drink lots of water.

Jawline : Colon and Reproductives

Cause: Hormonal imbalances due to monthly periods for women, stress and other causes could link your acne and hormones together. Also, if your Dad had acne it is a safe bet you will have it too because of a hormone called Adrogen! Remedies: I HIGHLY suggest that a medical professional is involved at this point if the breakouts are nodular or "volcanic". Why? Because hormones are something that MUST be addresed by an endocrinologist or naturopathic doctor. Enough said...have your HORMONES TESTED!!

Ears : Kidney

Cause: Too many salty foods, not enough water!!

Remedies: Cut down on salt! Read all food labels carefully. Drink water regularly during the day. Also, foods high in preservatives also contain high amounts of salt. Preservatives as forms of salts. For instance, in the process of making jerky, preserving the meat is a process where high amounts of salts are used to cure and dehydrate the meat.

********

In Conclusion... Exhausted???? I was when it really started to look at people and what their face could tell me. May I just admit that I have helped clients celebrate many "Aha" moments when I have brought out my Chinese facial map.... now a day this has become auto pilot for me when looking at a person during Consultations.

Although face mapping is a good indicator of our inner health, there are other factors also that contribute to acne skin problems. Personal hygiene, clothing, cleaning products, weather, foods, lifestyle all play a role in our skin’s overall health and appearance.

In the end, this is only one more tool used in my business that has served me and my clients for more info, Please Google "Chinese Facial Map" ********************

Happy 2017 to you all! Wishing everyone a year of Fresh Starts & Fresh Skin! I look forward to seeing you all on the Treatment table!
